ackandClaude Fable 5.1 ed7bedf5a7 Images in plain text and the terminal; bounded build parallelism (from dev 16f82cc887af)
- @image under txt and ansi is a picture in characters, in five styles
(Image_txt_style: halfblock the default, shade, ascii, quadrant,
braille), sized to the terminal's width less a margin when ktext runs
in one, every cell in its own colours under ansi; a figure's caption
is centred under it and no txt caption is ruled off any more.
- The build compiles as many files at once as the machine has cores
(JOBS; make -C com JOBS=1 for a small machine): the sub-makes' bare -j
meant unlimited parallelism and exhausted 8 GB machines. The three
install pages say "make -C com".

ackandClaude Fable 5.1 715d939727 What a Windows editor saves, and a standard user's Windows install (from dev 9d6f66456a3d)
- CRLF line endings are read as newlines on every system (the reader used
to delete the pair, collapsing a Notepad++ file into one line on Linux
  and macOS); a leading UTF-8 byte-order mark is ignored; a UTF-16 or
Windows-1252 source is refused with the encoding, the place and the
remedy named. .gitattributes pins LF in every clone.
- Windows source install: the repository path must hold no space (GNU
  Make), accented letters are fine (every linker input is relative now);
python.org's Python is selected ahead of an MSYS2 one that poppler pulls
in; TeX Live goes to its Windows default C:\texlive\2026.
- The Python binding needs an ASCII installation path on Windows, and its
  suite says so there.

ack ee8bcf5300 Windows: product names, the editors, WSL; the Linux page's image step
Assembled from development commit c3c40f6c8fca. Since 830b193: on Windows the
products carry Windows names (ktext.exe, klammertext.dll, document.dll,
reflect.dll) and the console's output code page is UTF-8 for a run; the
editor tooling works on Windows (VS Code, Sublime Text, Vim, with the
interpreter's name chosen by platform) and Notepad++ joins it
(doc/edit/notepadpp: a User Defined Language and two Run-menu commands);
a sixth install page, doc/install/windows_wsl_install.md, for Linux
inside WSL; the Windows page opens with the three routes and gains its
editor section, the PowerShell quoting and Path notes; the Linux page
installs OpenImageIO from the python3-openimageio package and verifies
with kdiag --machine; the README lists all six install pages. Linux and
macOS behaviour is unchanged.

ack 830b19394d Klammertext runs natively on Windows; a Windows source-install guide; the bundled sh for @eval :shell
Assembled from klammertext-dev f344a37d772c. The commands, the library,
the Standard Klammer Set, the reflection klammerset and the Python
binding build and run natively on Windows (MSYS2 UCRT64 gcc, python.org
Python), and both test tiers pass there. doc/install/windows_source_install.md
is the fifth install guide: a source install parallel to the Linux and
macOS ones, verified by following it on a pristine Windows 11.

Behaviour on every system: paths Klammertext prints use forward slashes;
output is LF; the command line is UTF-8 on Windows; @eval :shell is a
POSIX shell command everywhere -- on Windows it runs the sh Klammertext
ships, BusyBox for Windows (win/busybox/, GPLv2, with its licence and the
source pointer). KLAMMERTEXT_FONTS and KLAMMERTEXT_KLAMMERSETS are lists in
the system's PATH convention (';' on Windows). On Linux and macOS nothing
observable changes.

ack c016b3e5f3 kdesc --rewrite from the reflection klammerset; txt caption rules the block's width
Assembled from klammertext-dev e99530408517. The katom rewrite patterns
are rendered from ref/ (a table in dispatch order, patterns through @c),
the procedural listing having left mac/; a plain-text caption's rule is
as long as the table or listing it captions; the editor-support comments
name the tools' new dev/ location.

ackandClaude Fable 5.1 760fda5470 The Python binding (kpy/): klammertext.Machine from a script
Assembled from klammertext-dev ed13dfaa5b7a. kpy/klammertext.cpp is a
CPython extension module giving a Python script an instance of the
Machine class -- ktext in-process, set up through the same functions the
command uses. Errors map one-to-one to Python exceptions under the C++
names; an @eval's Python exception is chained as __cause__. Built by
make -C mac, found through PYTHONPATH (env/runtime.env sets it), tested
by tst/kpy_test.sh. Three engine changes came with it: Error::message(),
set_command_state(), and the @eval error report carrying its traceback.

ack 4a4c7404cc Markdown to PDF: the mdpdf command, and the fonts it needs
This snapshot carries sks/tns/, the translation directory, into the
distribution for the first time, together with the two default font
families its stylesheet names.

sks/tns/ holds two converters in opposite directions. md_to_sks.py
converts Markdown to Klammertext, recording what it cannot convert exactly
as "#[MD ... ]#" markers so a draft carries its own worklist. md_to_pdf.py
renders Markdown straight to PDF through a headless Chromium driven over the
DevTools Protocol, bypassing Klammertext entirely -- the route for a
document that is not ready to convert, and a permanent one for Markdown that
Klammertext cannot represent well. Neither is loaded by the SKS; md_to_pdf
needs markdown-it-py, which it keeps in a virtual environment of its own and
creates with --setup.

The everyday form of the second is the mdpdf command, a shell function in
sks/tns/mdpdf.sh that env/runtime.env sources, so anyone with the
Klammertext environment has it:

    mdpdf notes.md # writes notes.pdf beside it

It supplies the house fonts, the size matching, and the code wrapping,
completes on *.md at the TAB key, and takes its defaults from MDPDF_*
variables so one can be changed in a shell profile without copying the
function. It is POSIX shell rather than zsh, since runtime.env is sourced
from bash profiles too.

Two things the stylesheet does that a print stylesheet usually cannot. Code
lines are wrapped to a column count MEASURED from the rendered page rather
than written down -- the browser is asked how many characters a code box
holds, over every box in the document, so the wrapping stays right when the
fonts, sizes or margins change. And the page number is a CSS Paged Media
margin box, which current Chromium implements, so it is set in the
document's own face instead of the browser's generic sans.

fnt/ gains EB Garamond and Source Sans 3, the serif and sans the stylesheet
asks for by default.

ack 8a2699a253 Typed arguments, calculated tables, spans, closed-world fonts, top-level fnt/ and env/
Sync with klammertext-dev through b90b0e09:

- Argument types end to end: :python_cast values are applied (Python
@eval receives real bools/numbers/lists), argument values are
validated against their argtype patterns with the argtype's
description as the error message, argtypes can declare :default
(overridable per declaration), and parameterized type families are
supported: rest(N) casts a rest argument to an N-dimensional list
  (bar-count = dimension).
- Unified indexed_range syntax (selector with parenthesized subsets,
composable mnemonic names) for table lines and spans.
- Table klammer: caption fonts fixed in both targets, :column_width /
:leading / :colsep wired, :colspan and :rowspan render (HTML
attributes; \multicolumn / \multirow), calculated cell values (:calc)
with prefix operators, display-precision semantics, :calc_format and
  :decimal period|comma.
- Fonts: closed-world resolution on the Klammertext font store
(infrastructure in mac/font_store; no Google Fonts links or fetch).
Default fonts live in the top-level fnt/; additional fonts install
into KLAMMERTEXT_FONTS directories via kdesc --font (list, samples,
preview, install — classification by font metadata). CSS font family
names are quoted (digit-initial families were silently lost).
- Environment files moved from mac/env/ to the top-level env/; shell
profiles source env/runtime.env. Dead per-host variants removed.
- Container: fnt/ ships in the image; curl removed (no network use).
